Timex reaches back to 1976 for this one, and the dial is the whole point: the layout takes its cue from the face of a rotary telephone, the motif that gives the watch its name.
A 37mm gold-tone stainless steel case, 12mm deep and finished in a mix of brushed and polished surfaces, frames a black dial with gold hour, minute and second hands. Acrylic crystal sits over the top the way it would have in the seventies, the caseback snaps on, and a Timex M03B quartz movement runs it. Water resistant to 50 metres, so a shower is no problem. The 20mm brown leather strap fastens on a buckle and fits wrists from 150 to 210mm. Part of the Timex LAB line, and covered by a two-year warranty.

Timex began in 1854 as the Waterbury Clock Company in Connecticut's Brass City, setting out to take timekeeping beyond the mantels of the wealthy. It went on to offer the first $1 pocket watch. In the 1960s Timex showed how tough its watches were in a series of live, televised torture tests.
